Listen up AT&T users who are still fortunate enough to have a grandfathered unlimited data plan, because this one’s for you!
If you recall, back in June, the FCC fined AT&T $100 million for misleading customers about their throttling policy. For at least 3 years prior, AT&T had been throttling data speeds for users connecting to overloaded/ congested cell towers. Remember that per net neutrality rules throttling is prohibited. However, mobile carriers are able to make adjustments in cases where they’re simply trying to minimize issues from heavy data users and maximize connectivity for users across the board.

As this same “throttling” practice remains - it’s just known as "reasonable network management" - AT&T, like other carriers, are adjusting their policy. Surprisingly enough, AT&T customers should be happy with the news. Until this change, AT&T would throttle users’ data speeds significantly after they used 3GB of HSPA data or 5GB or LTE data (applies to a single billing period). Now, they’ve increased this amount to 22GB!
